At Patriot Custom Homes, every project begins with a story—and the Cool Breeze project is one worth telling. Located on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas, this whole home remodel started as a simple cabinetry upgrade. But, like many of our favorite projects, it quickly evolved into something bigger.
A New Chapter on the Lake
The homeowners—a couple in their 50s—recently closed an important chapter in their lives and were ready to open another. He had just retired from decades of service as a firefighter, and she was a former part-owner of a successful oil and gas company. After selling the company, they decided it was time to invest in one of their favorite places: their lakefront home.
Initially, the couple contacted Patriot Custom Homes to update their cabinetry. But as we walked through the house and listened to their vision, it became clear they were ready for more. Their past experiences with general contractors left them frustrated by delays and poor communication. This time, they wanted something better: a partnership grounded in trust and transparency.
What began as a simple home remodeling project has grown into a whole home renovation that’s reimagining their beloved property from the ground up.

Together, we focused on intentional design, high-end finishes, and a layout that makes the most of the property’s natural light and lakefront views.

Overcoming the Unexpected
As with any large-scale remodeling process—especially in older homes—there are surprises. During demolition, we discovered that the existing cabinetry and framing weren’t level, a result of the home naturally settling toward the lake over time. This posed a significant foundation issue, and we knew it couldn’t be ignored.
For the construction phase, we brought in a structural specialist, diagnosed the problem, and took action to protect the long-term integrity of the renovation.

From our first consultation in July 2024, this project has been a yearlong journey of design, discovery, and transformation!
Throughout the build, we used Buildertrend to keep the client up-to-date on progress, especially since the homeowner traveled frequently during the early stages. Weekly meetings, consistent updates, and prompt problem-solving helped ensure they always felt informed and confident in the process—something they appreciated!
