Award-Winning Houston Kitchen Remodel: The Cool Breeze Project

Some moments catch you completely off guard (in the best way).

Finding out the Cool Breeze kitchen had won Silver for Best Remodeled Kitchen at the Best in American Living Awards was one of those moments. This was one of the first major national awards we had ever submitted for, and we entered it mostly as a learning experience. It’s a large, well-known competition, and we truly didn’t expect anything to come from it. In fact, the submission happened so long ago that we had almost forgotten about it entirely.

So when the email came through letting us know we’d won Silver and qualified for Gold consideration it meant the world. Personally and professionally, this award is a huge honor. So many people played a role in bringing this kitchen renovation to life, and having that work recognized on a national level is something we’re very proud of.

What Made the Cool Breeze Kitchen Stand Out

Looking back, it’s easy to see why this kitchen design resonated with the judges. Every detail (from the designer lighting to the color selections on the kitchen island and backsplash) was chosen with intention and worked together in a cohesive, thoughtful way. Nothing feels overdone, but every element makes an impact.

This is, without question, the most elevated project we’ve completed to date. The Cool Breeze kitchen represents the highest level of design we’ve achieved so far, and seeing that recognized affirmed that the attention to detail and collaboration throughout the process mattered.

This project benefited from many voices (designers, partners, and our internal team) who all shared ideas, perspectives, and expertise. That collaborative approach is a big part of why the kitchen makeover turned out the way it did.

Designing for Real Life

The clients behind the Cool Breeze project had a very clear vision from the start. They wanted a kitchen space that supported the way they actually live: one that felt welcoming and easy to gather in. Their home was dated and ready for a full transformation, and they were excited to start fresh.

Rather than focusing on limitations, the conversation centered on outcomes. They wanted a custom kitchen that worked hard for everyday life while still feeling elevated and beautiful. A large walk-in pantry was a must. Storage solutions to hide appliances for a clean look was important. High-end appliances were non-negotiable, but so was flow, functionality, and ease of use.

The result is a designer kitchen that doesn’t just photograph beautifully, it functions effortlessly. Cool Breeze strikes a balance between luxury and livability, creating a space that feels both intentional and inviting.

Behind the Scenes

Houston Kitchen Remodel

As with any remodel, this kitchen came with its challenges. One of the biggest was achieving perfectly level custom cabinetry which was especially critical with inset kitchen cabinets, where even the smallest inconsistencies are noticeable. The home sits on an incline, something that wasn’t fully apparent at the start, which meant adjustments had to be made on the fly to meet the design standard we were committed to.

We also encountered unexpected settling issues within the home. While unrelated to our construction work, they needed to be addressed to ensure the long-term integrity of the project. Bringing in an engineer allowed us to evaluate the structure, confirm there wouldn’t be future issues, and move forward with confidence.

Our team worked closely together to problem-solve in real time, making surer the final kitchen layout was not only beautiful, but structurally sound and built to last.

Features That Make It Special

There are countless details to love in this space, but a few stand out. All of the kitchen countertops are quartzite, adding a natural elegance and depth that grounds the space while keeping it timeless. The cabinetry is completely custom, every cabinet and drawer designed to support how the homeowners use the space day to day. Nothing was off-the-shelf, and that level of customization makes a noticeable difference.

One of our favorite features is the butler’s pantry. It’s open, spacious, and offers an incredible amount of storage, operating almost like a second kitchen. It allows the main kitchen to remain clean and uncluttered while hosting without sacrificing function, reflecting the heart of this project.

Looking Ahead to Gold

We’ll find out at the BALA Gala in February whether Cool Breeze takes home Gold, and the possibility alone is incredibly meaningful. Winning Gold would be a powerful affirmation of the care, craftsmanship, and intentionality our team brings to every project.

More than anything, it would serve as a reminder to ourselves, our clients, and our partners that quality and attention to detail matter. That we’re committed not just to building beautiful spaces, but to building them well.
